Andy, simple answer for year round use is "Yes!"
From 1964 until 1971, my '64TR4 was the family car. It was in New York and
New Jersey from 1968 until 1973 ('71-'73 it was the 2nd car because the
family had grown). And then it was in Northern Italy and Southern Germany
from '73-'76.
I never had a problem in the winter with any of the items you mentioned. The
car started well (usual winter procedures for all cars were followed), ran
better than many other cars on the road (probably due to weight
distribution); the heater worked fine and the defroster (IMO) is/was/will
always be marginal but was serviceable. The car was stock w/o overdrive and
had Michelin X tires. Hope this helps. Cheers.
