Hello Atwell,
Great story, I got a real chuckle out of it!
Reminds me of a problem I had with my 250 several years ago after putting
it back on the road after a rebuild.
Several days worth of trying to get it to start were fruitless until
Dennis Riley asked if I was sure I had spark when it was turning over. I
answered of course it did...I had spark with the ignition on.
Played around with it a bit and found that it would kick start every time
but not start when the key was turned to start.
I finally figured out that I DIDN'T have spark when the starter was
engaged. Ended up putting in an 'ignition switch' to send 12 volts to
the points all the time that I could turn on and off at will. I'd turn
on the switch when starting and turn it off when it got running.
Just a thought of something you might want to try, and unless you have
some one else turning it over while you watch for a spark, or a remote
starter button and looking for spark, you'd never e realize that it was
the problem.
