Here we go again......

As you are new to this list, I guess you are excused - but this subject
has been explored several times and to put it short I'll quote John
Kipping: "If you want to put a six-cylinder engine in a spitfire you need
help - try a psychiatrist" - or better yet: by a Vitesse.

Anyway I've done it to my 69 spit mk3 over the winter, and it isn't really
a problem - IF you've got the right parts and THAT is a big problem - here
in Denmark at least.

What you'll need:

Engine - no problem, take one from a tr6, 2000 og gt6
inlet manifold - big problem, only the one from a gt6 (downslope) gives
enough clearance.
Bonnet - if you're planning on doing it to a mk1-3 its a problem as they
are not remanufactured (as they are to the mkIV/1500)
Gearbox - GT6 will fit directly, but a TR6 or 2000 box without overdrive
can fit with some alterations.
Gearbox cover - no problem remanufactured in fibreglass.
Gas pedal - cable operated
Radiator - big problem if you want the GT6 (best) otherwise anything that
will fit is ok (just be sure that it is mounted high enough to give top
cooling)
Rev counter - electric, 2000 can be used
Speedometer - 2000 will do
Springs - GT6 springs
Engine mountings, carbs, exhaust manifold, distributor - no prob.

Furthermore I will advise you to upgrade your brakes, as the engine makes
the car a lot heavier. If you get an overdrive box, you can use the
original tranny otherwise I'd go for a 3.27

If I haven't discouraged you yet, don't hessitate to ask for help.....

All that said, the car is great to drive; the oversteer of the spit has
gone with the heavier engine in front the car is more neutral in tight
turns. The sound, the look, the performance is GREAT!
