I just replaced my GT6 MkI's driveshaft U joints in hopes
of curing a slight vibration that has developed lately.
No improvement. I have two more to replace the ones
on the swing axles but have been putting off installing
them because it's such a nasty job. I did notice that
the pinion bearing seemed a tiny bit loose so I wonder if this
might be part of the problem. I know what is involved in
replacing this and I am not looking forward to the job but
I have one question: When I replace the bearing, can I
simply reinstall the same shim on the pinion shaft or will
I have to set up the clearances all over again? In spite of
all the excellent instructions and illustrations in my shop
manual concerning setting up differentials, my past efforts
at this have not been entirely successful and I only want to
do this once. If it makes any difference, the diff is from
a '72 Spitfire, the original one bought the farm about 20
years ago.
Thanks,
Dave
