Martin,
The best way and the only way I've used to dissassemble U-Joints, is with a
very large bench vice. Remove the circlips or lockrings, use the vise as a
press, press a small 3/8 drive socket (about the same size but smaller than
the cup) against one of the cups and a larger socket (that will receive the
opposite cup when pressed out of the yoke) on the opposite side of the
U-Joint, repeat for the other set. Some times you will need to grasp the cup
with ViseGrips to get them all the way out. Dont worry about scarring the
old U-Joint cups as you are going to chuck them out anyway. But do worry
about dinging, bending or breaking the driveline or the U-Joint flange!
Good luck!
