Neither. Long ago, I came to the conclusion that the method depicted in
the workshop manuals is primarily a fine example of British humour.
What is much kinder and gentler (and much, much easier) is to use a bench
vise to press out the u-joint, utilizing appropriate diameter sockets
(preferably from Craftsman, Snap-On or other tool manufacturer that
guarantees their socket sets and other tools for life). VTR's Bill Sohl
wrote this up some time ago in _The Vintage Triumph_; the method has
worked for me every time. (Thanks, Bill!)
