Hi all!
My slipping clutch is to the point where I now need a running start
to get up the driveway into the garage, so time for a new clutch for
my 72 TR6.
I removed the seats, carpet and bolts that secure the trans tunnel.
Following the Bentley manual, I took the steps to remove the gearshift
lever. After removing the bolt at the rear of the gear lever cap, it says
loosen the 2 nuts on the adjusting bolts, press and twist the cap and
remove. Well, I can't! There are no slots in my cap - just holes for the
bolts. So, my questions:
How much trouble am I asking for in removing the bolts to get
the cap off?
Is there a way to get the transmission tunnel cover off without removing
the gearshift lever? BTW, my tunnel cover appears to be fiberglass.
Moss offers 2 different gear lever caps: 1 with 3 holes like mine and
1 they call quick release that has slots so you can remove just one
bolt and press and twist off the cap. Should I get this quick release
cap to make things easier next time?
When replacing the clutch, Moss recommends replacing the release
fork pin with their "high tensile replacement pin". Any opinions on
this?
Besides the new pressure plate, clutch disc and release bearing,
anything
else I should replace or look at while I'm in there?
Moss offers standard (I guess) and heavy duty competition clutch kits.
Any good reasons for going with the more expensive competition kit?
I don't push my TR hard and really don't need more excercise for my
right leg. Will the heavier clutch last longer? Any other benefits
or problems?
With the tunnel cover off, I'll finally be able to attach wires to
the reverse
switch for the backup lights. Any idea on how to route the wires
back to the
lamps? My wires seem to be missing completely.
