To summarize,

Chris has r/r his sump and oil pump. Where the oil pressure light
extinguished prior to this exercise, it now stays on. His question
is: How do I check for oil pressure?

There are several possiblities.

First, pull out the pressure sending unit, and see if you have
any oil pumping out. Do this with the coil disconnected so that the
car doesn't start. You could go this one step further and attach
a gauge. If you have oil coming out/pressure, your sending unit
bought the farm for some reason. I also seem to remember that in
a previous life, I had a problem with the wires going to the
sending unit being reconnected in the wrong order causing a similar
scenario.

If you do not have any oil pumping out the hole, I am afraid that
you will have to re-remove the sump and ensure that you have the
pump installed correctly.

You can also pull the valve cover and see if you are getting oil up
to the valves.
