I was at the VTR National Convention, and I can tell all THAT is one FAST
spit.
Does that Quaiffe unit work in TR-6 diffs, too? I'll look forward to the
article.

2nd...I believe I read somewhere (long ago) that a limited slip dif
exists
which
would fit a GT6. How rare are these and how much $$$ do they typically
go
for ?
Is it worth it for autocrossing ?
Gee, funny you should say such a thing. Just hours ago I was working on an
article intended for "The Vintage Triumph," the quarterly magazine of The
Vintage
Triumph Register. It describes some details about the Spitfire 1500 I ran
at
the national convention in Rockford. Much of the info is directly
applicable
to a GT6. Here's an excerpt:
The differential was changed from the stock 1500 unit. It is a Mark 3
unit,
with the 4.11 to 1 gears bolted to a Quaife torque-sensing limited slip.
The
Quaife was one of the bigger ticket items, but made quite a noticeable
difference
in the way the car could launch off the line and come out of the corners
under
power. With the 4.11 gears, and the 20" tall Hoosiers, the 6300 rev limit
gives
the Spitfire a top speed of about 95 miles per hour. Not exactly a Salt
Flats
record breaker!
The article is not quite done, and is currently about 15,000 characters
long.
IF
anyone would like a copy, I can email it to them, and it should be available
via
FTP real soon.
By the way, a new Quaife unit is about $750 or so, which is only for the
bare
center section. You'd have to install it in your own diff, or have someone
do
it for you, so the cost is higher than the $750. If, for example, you sent
a
diff with good ring & pinion to The Fat Chance Garage, along with $1,000,
you'd
get a rebuilt diff with new bearings, seals, etc. and a Quiafe sent back to
you.
