      referred to as a Detroit locker before, so that's why I used the term
      in my post.  I believe that is the correct definition.

No, a diff with the spider gears welded to the cage is a welded diff.
Buy a few spare sets of axles, both inner and outer, if you plan on using
this on the street.

A Detroit locker is a limited slip cam and pawl arrangement.  It gives open
differential action sometimes, locked action some other times.  Usually
accompanied by strange noises when going from one mode to another.
