>Yeah, don't worry. There's no way to avoid the mess.
It wasn't really the mess that bothered me. I never did get the
canister out from the engine! I just couldn't find a spot large enough
to either drop it through or pull it up! I finally ended up dumping out
the oil and old filter and finagling the new filter into the canister.
Good thing Triumph recommended changing the filter ever 12K miles! <g>

I found that out after the fact! <sigh> There's no way I'm pulling that
filter again until it's changing time! <g> I know there's at least two
seals there to remove...
>Really remarkable on a car with as many miles as yours has--perhaps

The previous owner said that he hadn't touched the engine or clutch. (I
can attest to the clutch part of it! <g>) It's possible that someone
before him did, though. I've noticed every so often that it will burn
oil on startup, and it's also been spitting out carbon like crazy! My
van's front end is covered with tiny carbon specs. <g> I figure it's
time to re-torque the cylinder head, change plugs, then consider where
to go from there.
