tr engine swap

I have a stock 2 litre tr7 into which i would like to swap a engine with a 
little go. I am wide open to suggestions as to what would be considered a 
good swap. I currently have a 72 Rover 3.5 litre aluminum which is a 
candidate but would prefer a north american engine. Any suggestions or 
personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.
