The reason, as I know it, for less Zink and ZDDP in modern oils is to reduce
fouling of the catalytic converter from blow-bye. Most new engines don't have
flat tappet solid lifters so the new oils work just fine. The main advantage
of diesel oils is for pre catalytic cars with solid lifters but it is said
there is some advantage in hydraulic lifter engines also.

better for the ole 88 Honda Civic family car. Mine
only has 441,000 miles on it and would like to get it to last longer? Does
the catalyic Converter make the difference?
