Hello Listers,
Well after some input from the list and studying the problem the solution
for clearance of cyl #2 & 6
was a combination of raising the motor about 3/8" with spacers and some
grinding of the motor mount brackets. I did not weaken the mount brackets
appreciably that I could see. On #5 cyl I still had no clearance so I had
to flatten out the pipe some with a hydraulic press, I also had to do #2
pipe as it passes by the frame rail. The good news is the jet hot coating
did not crack with the pressing.
I really did not want to disturb the pipes but had no other option short of
pulling the motor out and flattening the frame rail. Yes I did measure the
engine compartment when I was doing body work and saw no frame damage in
that area. I was getting real good at pulling the headers and motor mounts
out for modifications! I do have some pictures on where I ground the
brackets. My suggestion before you have the headers coated is too make sure
they will fit in your Tiger before the coating is done. It takes some time
but in the end it saves alot of frustration!
As I stated earlier in the week I found that I had the steering arms
installed opposite of what they should be. That corrected the interference
problem and also toe in looks to be okay. I still need to put Tiger on all 4
paws and do the measurement. I wonder if the toe change under load will be a
problem. Again I will need to get it on the ground to see this. At least I
can now go on to the next phase of Tiger'rr restoration.
