It is my personal belief, based on no personal testing, that a few
things are clear. The new cars, with all the multiple catalytic
converters restricting flow, only have an increase in loudness, not power.

On the older systems, like ours, it probably is similar, with maybe 5-10
horsepower, if you add headers. More would be available with sufficient
exhaust valve, port work, as this is the weakest link. Modern mufflers
are not as restrictive as the old ones, and even inexpensive turbo muffs
give relatively nice sound, are cheaper, and probably do not change
performance much either.

In any event, the power that would be added is at the higher rpm range, only.

Buy them if you like the sound, or are ready to do everything else in
the exhaust system to get some more power.

One thing I would NOT recommend is adding pipes larger than 2 inches, as
you are now slowing the velocity of the exhaust greatly, and the back
pressure is as low as you would reasonably need at 2 inches.

My $.02

Anyone with measured differences is encouraged to illuminate the rest of us.

Steve
