Just to add another trivial fact, to an alarmingly growing thread for
this WWI-Aircraft I Have Known and Loved- List@autox.team.net,
It wasn't the torque, it was the inertia of all that rotating gyroscopic
mass, as the good Dr.'s Palmer and Mayf have pointed out.
Lets see, to execute a combat turn, while being chasing by the Red
Baron, feverishly trying to outmaneuver you in his Fokker tri-wing, with
one hand you pull the joystick to the right, with the other you turn off
the ignition (no throttle - on/off, and operate the machine gun with
your third hand, while you descend - as the Baron climbs left and
accelerates up. Whoops, Snoopy, back to the base for you.
