Hey and Howdy fellas,
I had been feeling a little play in my steering so I started to investigate.
What I found was the fitting (u joint) has play where it attaches to the
output shaft of the rack. It looks like the through bolt is supposed to fit
through the u Joint, pass through a u shaped cutout in the rack output shaft
continuing through the other side of the u joint and is secured with a nut.
Questions: is the output shaft from the rack splined and if so is it likely
the rack shaft is toast or more likely the u joint splines are warn? If the
rack shaft is bad, is a rebuilt or NOS rack available? The split in the u
joint where it slips over the rack shaft is not touching but I have tightened
the nut as far as I dare. What do you think guys?????
Cheers
Gunny
