Chris,
If you have the stock shifter, and are using a stock type
rubber boot, you do not have to remove anything.
That rubber boot neck hole that grips the chrome shaft is very
flexible. It can easily expand to slide over the stock shift
knob, and over the "T" handle - one leg at a time.
No need to remove anything but the chrome hold down ring and
the old boot.
