Depending on how radical you want your tach to look, I just installed the Auto
Meter Ultra Lite model 4499.  While the front is large and easy to read the
back is only 3 3/8" an fits nicely into the existing dash opening.  This tach
is a very modern look and recent production so it will work with the modern
ignition systems.
