Jim,
I think your ticket is the 8,000 rpm Cobra tach. They're available from XKs
Unlimited for around $140 as I recall. I've had one for about two years now
and love it. It's very accurate and steady. It's a Smiths unit and looks
right at home on your dash with the other Jaeger/Smiths gauges. I painted
the white indicator needle orange to match the other gauges. It takes a
pretty high timing voltage to drive it, but I think you can make it work
with a Pertronics. Maybe someone else on the List has already done this
particular installation. I'm using mechanical points and an MSD-6 with mine.
