| Listers,
I received the following from Tom Ballou in Texas, who is no longer a member
of this list. If any of you have comments on it, I would appreciate your
sending them to Tom, with a copy to this list. Thanks.

Dick, forgot to ask you the other night whether you had seen any cars at
SUNI III that had aluminum heads installed, particularly TrickFlow heads.
Someone suggested to me that I might have a clearance problem at the top
rear of the engine. I called TrickFlow and was told their heads are .300
thicker than stock heads measured from the deck surface to the rocker
cover rail (my crude measurement was close to 3/8", so that isn't far off).
They claim their exhaust ports are located in the stock location relative to
the engine and each other, so header clearance shouldn't be a problem. I
think the aluminum valve covers are maybe .100 thicker at the corners than
the stock stamped covers. That's a total of .400 or so. I think I could
always get my fingers behind the valve covers and could actually get the
stock ones off without moving the engine, so maybe there isn't a real
problem. My recollections about the Edlebrock heads is that they are
reputed to be about .500 thicker (don't really care since I bought a set of
TrickFlows, but if they will fit, the TFS certainly should). Any knowledge
here?
Has there been any traffic in the email circuit about these heads?
Tom
