PAUL:
How about a modified solution to all of this? Perhaps a published list that
says: "Here are 5 obvious things that are really hard to duplicate but
would indicate that a TIGER in question may in reality be an Alpine
conversion". No guarantees but it would at least throw up the red flag
for those of us that live in the far reaches of the world. You can keep
secret things like the little tag that is welded to the inside of the frame
member that says "REGIT" and must be read in a mirror inserted into the
drivers door at 32 1/2 degree incline or what ever the real secrets are.
Most of us know enough to look at the welding and the cutting on the
floor pan but there must be 3 or 4 other things to watch for. If a car did
not have these things then it would be worth taking it to Cal. to find out if
it is real before spending the big bucks to buy it. I would be quite willing
to let STOA TAC people decide what should be on this list and what
should be kept secret but it would at least give those of us that can not
readily go South a shooting chance at not to make a big dollar mistake.
Godspeed
Jc
