A couple of other contenders:

The 1996 Suzuki X-90- "Not many automakers have the nerve to bring a car as
wacky and charming as the X-90 to production"  AUTOMOBILE Magazine 3/96

The older 3 cylinder Saab, especially in mustard/green/yellow.

However, in the caterpillar to butterfly category:  Impala SS, what a
transformation!
