Hey!! Watch it there, Macy! My neck is a bit red.
I know plenty of rednecks who raise their kids just as you were raised. I
pushed on through life a bit ahead of the Hippie generation but never had
any real problems with them. Most have become good and productive people and
decent parents. The group I have problem with are the *lazy* ones who not
only leave raising their children to someone else (teachers, cops...etc) but
also feel they have the right to then chastize the teachers, cops...etc
because they are being tough on their progeny! In my book this is all
trickle down from dear ol' Dr. Spock who taught parents from the 50s onward
that they shouldn't hold children responsible for their actions. Now those
kids are parents and grandparents who, in that same spirite, have taught
their kids that everything is someone elses fault, not yours.
If my kid had mouthed off to that cop like this one did, (and he damned well
knew this!) he'd better hope the cop didn't tell me about it or he'd have
got a lot worse from me than being pushed to the ground! My kid now manages
a huge manufacturing plant and thanks his mother and I for teaching him
respect and responsibility. Even the few times when we had to go out behind
the barn..... He's raising his own the same way with our blessings.
Cheers!!
Jim
