I gotta tell you, I was thoroughly impressed with the old Chevy 1 ton
truck I drove to St.Louis & back (to Pittsburgh) this past weekend. It
belongs to one of my racing buddies, who uses it to tow a rather
substantial enclosed trailer, containing a couple of race cars, spares,
tools & sleeping quarters. It has 246,000 miles on it, and it ran like
a top (454 gas, automatic tranny). While it rode, well, like a truck;
it didn't rattle, or feel like it was 10 years old, with nearly 1/4
million miles on it. It even got 11.6 to 12.0 MPG, which (although
still painful) was a bit of a surprise, as I hadn't expected any better
than 10 MPG.
When you consider that virtually ALL of those nearly 1/4 million miles
were put on with a heavy trailer behind, as well as a bed full of racing
spares (in other words, this truck WORKS for a living); that's pretty
good testimony for them Chivys.
