Hello Jim,
the problems of our high health cars costs are MUCH more than
treating those of us who are less fortunate enough to lack
insurance (including Illegals).. lets take a quick look at
malpractice... INSURANCE... check out a doctor sometime and see
why he is no longer in private practice and is part of a
managed care facility or in partnership. have a look at the
number of OB/GYN's who have quit or are afraid to open their
own clinics... its part of our culture now that there is
someone to blame, thus someone to SUE for every misfortune..
then there's the cost of testing, and testing EQUIPMENT. if a
doctor is looking for a diagnosis, and has the least little
chance of missing ANYTHING, he'll order tests, and more tests.
check out the cost of an MRI machine, X-ray machine, hell even
a medical grade MICROSCOPE! .. if the test isn't done, the
patient can SUE! see above paragraph!..
then there's DRUG COSTS.. someone has to pay for the research
and clinical trials for every new drug brought onto the market.
what's the average time for introducing a new pharmaceutical?
FIVE years? 10 years, including trials, .. gotta pay the
chemists, testers, labs, etc, then make up those costs by
charging for the drug itself, not to mention, side effect
LAWSUITS? (remember Phen/Fen?, Thalidomide?) ..
now don't think that I think that lawsuits and lawyers are the
cause of our high health cost, or even bad doctors that may or
may not have created the cases for those in the law profession.
but it is a part of the cost of doing HEALTH business, just as
is caring for the uninsured. ..
