Ah, that explains it. My 948 sounded good on the Mallory dual points and
if I had nothing else to compare it to I'd be happy, but while driving
on the long Watkins Glen Straight I switched back and forth to the crank
trigger and heard it clean up, I was amazed. Further investigation with
the timing light showed that as good as the Mallory is there is still
some spark scatter. The timing with the crank trigger was rock steady. I
didn't get to pursue more development with this on the dyno, but I could
probably have safely put more timing in it .
