Hello chuck,
i broke down and bought the K&N filter kits (expensive at about
$65 each) from APT (aptfast.com). i bought the 3" deep ones so
that i could fit ram pipes inside. in terms of $$$$ per
performance gain, this is a GREAT return on investment. ... ..
there is a road i drive for fun that has a rather steep climb.
before changing i had to downshift from 4th to third gear or
just keep lugging along slower and slower... just adding the
stacks and K&Ns i can now ACCELERATE in 4 gear up the hill!
there is a pair of stacks on ebay right now!
also available from APT and the usual suspects.
in the stock cans, i was having the same problem that you are
experiencing, in that a PO had lost the spacers. i made some
from 3/8" i.d. tubing.
