Glen, THe strength of the weld depends greatly on three factors: The type and tensile strength of the electorde material The penetration of the weld into surrounding metal The quality of the weld If the correct electrode is chosem AND the penetration is 100% AND the weld is is good quality (No undercuts, no porosity, etc.) then the weld will be stronger than the surrounding metal.
