I just had the same problem on a 74 Midget. I removed the plastic column cowl and stuck in an early MG ignition switch. I used a couple large washers and it fit the hole where the old key switch was. It still uses a Union key Off-on-start. I did remove the original locking mechanism, you may have to grind slotsin the original screw as they were made to snap off when installed.
