ED, I took my 1/4" drive crapsman extension with handle and a drive socket
in the back of the handle from 30 years ago to sears to be replaced they
only had the new type without the drive socket. After showing them the
difference they gave me a check to buy one from Snap-on, no problem. I wish
I could get them to rebuild my 30 year old 3/8" drive ratchet.
Snap-on tools are twice as good, but cost 4 times the amount. The only
way it is worth the cost is if you owe the Snap-on man money so he stops by
every week to collect his money then he will repair or replace damaged
tools.
At least I know where to find the sears store when I need to.
Snap-on and Mac are great tools but the "service" is only when you are on
their route. Let's not even talk about the great Mac tool truck chase (4
hrs) to replace my 8" wobble extension.
Crash

>DEAD freakin' wrong. Little story. Had a 3/8" drive ratchet made by
>crapsman. Keep in mind this wrench WAS purchased 20 (or so) years ago.
>Broke. Take an 45 mt. trip to Sears. Stand around with thumb up....! Get
>told, "No we rebuild, not replace". OK, I am now mad enough all I want is
to
>get the He*l outta there with my "rebuilt" wrench. Two weeks later, guess
>what is broke again?? Nah, ya couldn't.
>Back to the freaking store, same crap. Now mind you I am now into SIX
hours
>of my time!! "fixed" again. ONE week later, guess what?? Yep, Broke
AGAIN
>!! OK, FINAL trip. Raise enough HELL with entire Dept., Security comes.
So
>I tell them and Dept. Mgr., I want STORE MGR. Got same. He told Dept.
Mgr.
>to REPLACE the thing, which he did. Next day, NEW broke. I put in box and
>shipped to Sears Tower to the then President and advised him of exactly
>where, what, why, and when he could "take care" of said tool.
>
><< No surprise there, so what's your point?>>
>
>Not sure if this answer is what you are looking for, but put in a call to
the
>Snap-On Dealer. He delievered a new wrench at 7:30 following morning to
the
>place I was working.
>
>Guess what?? That wrench has been rebuilt once (because of MY abuse and
was
>done N/C) and I still have it and use regularly with NO probs. and your
>crapsman??
>
><< BTW, If I was a SO dealer, I'd be PO'd that they've opened an online
>store! >>
>
>Bet, not. More brand awareness, and HIGHER prices than your regular guy
will
>have. Have not seen one yet that charges S & H. Beside, my guys regularly
>has deals and my guy has an Open Account for me. The "site", get your
>plastic out.
>
>OK, dismounted.
