Doesn't make much difference what grade--the higher grades have higher
pre-load figures, but lose pre-load dramatically after the first use.
BTW--we have had a discussion about replacing Original grade 5 bolts with
grade 8's on here before. The most common opininion is to replace bolts with
whatever grade was originally used. Especially in critical safety
connectors, it makes more sense to go to the stronger bolts. One reason for
staying with Grade 5s was that they will "stretch" before they give and the
Grade 8s are more brittle. This is fallacious becaues the Grade 8s will not
break until long after teh 5s have stretched their limits and have failed.
Good stuff!
