1098 Void?

Hi,
A friend is assembling a 1098 and had a question I can't answer.  What
goes under the rear main bearing cap(besides the bearing) where the
crank is?  It seems as though some kind of seal is required there, but I
don't remember.  If all else fails, I can pull the pan off the spare
1275 for clues.  But, I'm sure someone here can relate to this.
