Wife has been tolerating this obsession since college (we started dating 12
years ago next week). When we were engaged she talked my out of an
absolutely perfect New Mexico Bugeye with a spare 1275 engine and 4 sets of
SU's for $2500 (in 1989), and has yet to hear the end of it. She talked me
into a Miata, which had me yawning in no time. Since then, she's been
tolerant, not really supportive. She loves it and is truly supportive only
when I take the boys (5 yrs and 7 months) for rides ( I let the 5 yr old
sit on my lap and steer up and down the driveway, and we go for cruises
along the Indian River whenever possible. The 7 month old only goes around
the block in the car seat at this point, but laughs hysterically all the
way). Generally, I only work on the car after they're sleeping, which is
all right since I'm a bit of an insomniac. It's a little tough with bugs
getting in the garage at night here in Florida, however.
