As it was mentioned before about black paint, "..only hurts originality
nuts".
I painted mine flat black simply because a gloss finish would highlight
every nick, dent, grind-mark etc. I once saw a speckle finish in a Sprite
engine bay that looked REALLY nice - sort of a deep gray with green
specks. I don't know how the guy did that except I am CERTAIN it isn't
the spray can trunk spray you buy at WalMart. That stuff shoots big hairy
chunks of crap. I don't want to have my engine bay look like a grotto!
There are some cooler finishes like speckle or wrinkle that would look
more "finished" but I don't yet have a compressor so it had to be pretty
simple.
I was really hoping to paint the engine with that hammertone paint that
Eastwood sells, but they told me it wouldn't stand the heat. Too bad. I
bought their British Engine Green paint. I'm really happy with the
quality (AND the quantity - I've never seen a spray can hold more paint!)
but the color is SO boring.
Any of you guys chemists or materials scientists? Is my FLAT black more
porous and susceptible to rust than say GLOSS black?
