While I was upgrading my brake system with the new stainless hoses and
refilling the master cylinder I noticed a peculiar thing about the fluif -
I use Silicon fluif and when I started to pour the new fluid in to replace
the old and bleed the brakes I noticed that the old fluid was much lighter
in color, almost clear, not the purple of the new fluid, (and not the amber
of DOT3 or 4)! For just a moment I thought that I possibly did a BIG boo
boo and mixed regular DOT 4 with the silicon, (could I not have switched
this car, did I forget in my old age ??) but no, I am positive that I am
using Silicon brake fluid. It mixed without any problems or globing that
would have happened if they were in fact different fluids. Just to make
sure I wasnt imagining things, I got some DOT 4, poured s small amount in
a cup, then added some Silicon fluid. What a mess, not pretty! In fact
all my vehicles I have switched to Silicon, with the exception of the 2002
mustang with ABS, and only because it specifically says to use ONLY dot 3
and I for one, dont want to be the guinea pig, to see if it will work so
yeah, all the other vehicles have Silicon fluid. At any rate, has anybody
else using Silicon fluif noticed any change in color?? Made me panic for
just a minute!
