Unlike a car (or truck) with a live rear axle, the Spit driveshaft driveshaft is connecting two things that are bolted to the frame. so it shouldn't need much play. A lot of Spit driveshafts had the "strap" style joint, which allowed only a 1/4" or so of fore-aft movement.
