You won't know until the bondo's out how big the underlying dent(s)
area is, so do that first.  

Most common along that leading edge of the bonnet is a dent about the
size of a baseball (or golfball if you're lucky).  Pounding it out from
the reverse side is the "correct" way, but sometimes it's either in a
place you can't get to or it simply doesn't seem worth the effort.  

An alternative method is to cut a small oval of sheet metal to go over
the dent (same method as is used when shaving door handles).  When you
weld it in, it will be solid and will require only a thin coat of bondo
to even everything out.
