spray some WD40 and or etc into the lock.
and stick the key completely in and out a few times.
It sounds like the tumblers are simply gummed up
allowing them to stick.

Subject: >>NASS keyless ignition - sort of!
Greetings....
During the hot days of summer in Arkansas, I park my '77 Spitfire in "The
Mother Inlaw's" garage. Ever now and then I go by and start it, dust it
off, and such.
The other day I went by, and in the process of starting, discovered that
I could turn the ignition with just the tip of the key in the ignition
switch! Hmmm.. Yep -- the engine starts!
Then I discovered that I could turn the switch and start it with a small
blade screwdriver!
Before I look for another switch, I thought that I would ask if anyone
had any ideas?!!
Has the ignition switch/lock just somehow died?
Tks all info!
Harve
