Subject: 1500 questions - fan switch/tank vent

Seeing that it's going to be a bad weekend for driving in the northeast,
thought I'd get to a few lingering problems with the Spit...

Is there a simple test to check to see if the switch (top of radiator) that
operates the electric fan on an 80 1500 (US) is faulty? Any other cause that
would prevent the fan from kicking in? My gauge ran a little higher than 3/4
in stop and go traffic last week when it was almost 80 outside and I never
heard the fan go off?

Also, a month or so, I filled up and gas shot out the tank, I asked the list
about that...got a few "plugged tank vent," "bad gas pump," "have you ever
used a pump before?"..... etc... I'm thinking it's the vent (car was stored
for years) and was wondering if there a quick, easy work around fix to this,
or should I just replace the entire line? (I don't have a compressor)

Appreciate the help
