The downdraft Weber is a "set it and forget it" carburetor. Once you
get it jetted and adjusted properly, you will never need to touch it
again. It's the oem carburetor on many millions of domestic and foreign
cars built from the 70's through the 80's.
It is not a high performance carburetor. But, compared to the ZS, it
is. It is far more reliable as well.
The downdraft Weber is available with a water choke, and electric
choke, an exhaust riser choke and a manual choke. Chose the type you
like. Each type can be replaced with one of the other types. The
electric choke is a very clean setup and works quite reliably. The
water choke is larger, but will precisely match choke opening with
engine temperature. The exhaust riser type is problematic and rather
rare. The hand choke is of course lots of fun.
