I have heard that pure copper an react with something in gasoline, so it is not 
such a good idea.
Also, it is sort of weak.

I had a copper line from the fuel pump to the carbs for a few years, but
it always leaked a little at the compression fitting at the pump.  Then I
made a new one from a piece of galvanized steel brake line, and
it looks better and no longer leaks.

Stainless is probably overkill.
