Hi everyone:
I made a comment on the list yesterday re a hard top 'hoist', stating that it
appeared it might be more trouble then it's apparent worth... also stated that
I must have missed the initial post (obviously, I did!). I then made mention
that it would make sense when considering "certain disabilities". My thoughts
'led' me to this, as one of my degrees is in Vocational Rehabilitation, where
I've spent many a year working with people that have disabilities. For many
years now, I've worked with (specifically) disabled Veterans of the US Armed
Forces. Missing body parts is vastly more the 'norm' than is prevalent in
other populations. Hence my initial thought re the 'hoist'. I can think of
MANY reasons why this would make sense to ANYONE who does NOT have a
disability, but hopefully some readers will understand with my background why
it WAS a serious consideration for me.
Anyway, what this is all leading up to, is that I assure everyone that there
was NO intent (whatsoever) on my part to 'convey' any sense of ridicule, or
demeaning, to anyone who uses a hoist, FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER! (I really
mean that!)
So to those of you who've written me re this issue, you now have not only a
private, but now also a public, apology.
In future, I'd like to ask those of you who did take offense, to please not be
so 'quick to decide' that offense was intended (by anyone). I don't mind
apologizing, and can do it all day long... if need be... but it's a bit of a
nuisance to do so when one shouldn't have to.
Lastly, I really DO appreciate that your comments were directed to me in
private, as I think that sort of way IS appropriate.
Respectfully,
Gary J. Durham
