Hi John,
I wouldn't be unduly concrned about slight damage to the tapered
section as there is no contact with either of the bearings here. It might be
worth polishing out if there is a defined corner to the damaged area as it
could potentially form a stress crack from this point, but in all honesty I
doubt you would have any problems here,
