And I'll go with Joe on this one. My 1500 with a pair of dual HS2's runs very
well.
Even if it did limit top end, it's a whole lot better then the small runner ZS
manifold!
I have not run a set of HS4's, so cannot accurately comment on the top end
difference
between the two. But I can say that my 1500 regularly gets questions about why
it's so fast from other Spitfire owners.
Personally, I would play with the needles, but I'm that sort of person anyways.
I tried several different sizes (bought a fistfull at a swap meet), with
significant
differences between them. I think I started with stock ones for a MkI or such,
(quite a mutt setup I purchased). Don't remember what I settled on, but they
weren't stock as I recall. If I ever get around to it, I've got an O2 meter and
such that I could install, and use it and the Scions of Lucas needle spreadsheet
to select some better needles.

They MIGHT if the engine is otherwise built up. However, I have HS2's on
Huxley's 1500 engine which has flat top pistons and a little richer cam
grind. I have not noticed any limitations on its top end.
