Children, children...
I was told that the engine in my '76 spitfire was
original, and it did not have an air rail or ports in
the head (I didn't keep track of the serial number,
but it was an FM ID). I later swapped the '76 engine
for a '77. It also has no air manifold ports.
I have two other engine blocks (disassembled) which I
recently purchased to rebuild, neither have the air
rail ports on the heads.
Finally, I bought what was supposed to be a MKIV head
from an LBC car shop from ebay back in jan or feb? And
it turns out that the head had the smaller intake
valves of the 1500 and DOES have the air rail ports.

from running '77 spit (currently in car) FM88251UE no
ports
from 19?? midget (disassembled) FP18496UE no ports
from 19?? spitfire (disassembled) FM19270UE no ports
head from (supposedly mk IV no idea what block ID it
had) has ports!

My engine failed VA emissions because it didn't have
the air pump. I bought one ($250 plus ~$100 for all
the assundry bits) and installed it but had no ports
to hook the air rail to. I was told by the inspector,
I needed to spend another $300 to be exempted for one
year and to port the head so I could install the air
rail. I was told that without the inspection sticker,
I couldn't get the required sticker and I could/would
lose my tag registration. I subsequently moved back to
Maryland two weeks later. As the saying goes:
"Virginia is a nice place to visit, but.....NOT."
Everyone else I've spoken to says these engines are
supposed to have the air rail ports.

'76 Spitfire which Virginia can decommission when they
pry the steering wheel from my cold dead hands. (Now I
just need to figure out what to do about Utah)
