Thanks to all who responded so quickly, I will try to purchase one of the
suggested filters.  I guess the adapter that I have on my engine is the 1/2
inch to 1/2 inch.  The Purelator part that I bought needs the 5/8 inch to
1/2 inch adapter.  Sam Gentry will use this information as well.  He has
been using the Purelator 73 with the 5/8 adapter.  His adapter came with the
car.

Greg, I am not sure if this will help you, but on my 76 Spitfire 1500, I use
an
off the shelf filter. AC PF53 or Autozones Deutsch D364. I also can use the
following from a cross reference chart.
Walmart   WF-335
Fram       PF-3614
Motorcraft FL-793
Purolator  PER-241

With these, I have not had to use any special adapter.
