Gary, the trim goes on with some of those nasty push on clips that dig into the
paint. A crow bar is a bit excessive, but essentially it's the correct "type"
of tool. You do need to prise the trim up and of with/without the clips. Once
one end is free thg rest pulls off. If you look at any of the catalogues they
will show the clips. You'll probably find that the clips are rusted if they
have not been replaced recently. Trim does not rust so just recoat the trim if
it needs it (there was a spate of mail on this before) and buy new clips when
you get your boot lid back.

I need to remove the black (on my 76) piece of trim on my trunk lid
prior to having the lid dipped. The guy at the body shop approached it
with a crowbar and I rapidly retreated to ask you folks if that was
going to damage anything. How are those things attached and what's the
best way to get them off such that they are not ruined and can be
re-attached.
