OK, the song has to be 'Hark The Herald Angels Sing'. Is the line "Join the Triumph in the skies", the Spitfire being a Triumph that shares its name with a 'plane? Or is that too obscure, and there is another reference I missed? - I don't have the lyrics in front of me, but I can remember (most of) the first and last verse by heart! ISTR a year or two ago there were a couple of 'alternative lyrics' versions of this carol. The line "Hark the Herald axles swing!" comes to mind, but I can't remember any more of it.
