Bill,
Certain of the Spitfire and GT6 models actually came from the factory with that
reported vinyl boot. I discovered that what appears to
be the case is that if the car came with a center console it apparently was
fitted with the boot as well. If it did not have the
console, it only had the rubber boot.
Many European models did not have that console and therefore no fancy boot.
All the US model 1500's that were assembled in Belgium
(1974's in the 13000 range with a 1FM prefix) were shipped to the US with no
console and therefore no boot.
If anyone has any documented evidence to dispute this, I'd like to hear about
it so I can update my documentation.
